RESUMO

This study reports a metal-enhanced fluorescence chemodosimeter for highly sensitive detection of Hg2+ ions. Silica-coated Au nanoparticles (Au@SiO2 NPs) with a pinhole-free 4-5 nm shell were synthesized and functionalized with a monolayer of turn-on fluorescent probes. Compared to other organic fluorescent probes suffering from poor biocompatibility and detection limits, this design of a monolayer of turn-on fluorescent probes immobilized on the Au@SiO2 NPs with a pinhole-free 4-5 nm shell avoids fluorescence quenching and allows the fluorescent probe within the field of the inner Au NPs to experience metal-enhanced fluorescence. With this design, the chemodosimeter permits fluorescence emission in the presence of Hg2+ ions, because they trigger the ring-opening reaction of the fluorescent probe immobilized on the Au@SiO2 NPs. Additionally, the fluorescent probe is distanced by the thin SiO2 shell from directly attaching to the metallic Au NPs, which not only avoids fluorescence quenching but allows the fluorescent probe within the long-ranged field of the inner Au NPs to experience metal-enhanced fluorescence. As a result, the detection limit for the chemodosimeter can reach up to 5.0 × 10-11 M, nearly two orders of magnitude higher than that achieved for the free fluorescent probe. We also demonstrate the acquisition of images of Hg2+ in HTC116 cells and zebrafish using a simple fluorescence confocal imaging technique. The fluorescence response results for HTC116 cells and zebrafish show that the probes can permeate into cells and organisms. Considering the availability of the many organic fluorescent probes that have been designed, the current designed metal-enhanced fluorescence chemodosimeter holds great potential for fluorescence detection of diverse species and fluorescence imaging.

Herein, we report the successful fabrication of a series of transition metal doped Ni nanoparticles (NPs) coordinated with Ni single atoms in nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes (denoted as Ni1+NPsM-NCNTs, M = Mn, Fe, Co, Cu and Zn; Ni1 = Ni single atom). X-ray absorption fine structure reveals the coexistence of Ni single atoms with Ni-N4 coordination and NiM NPs. When applied for electrocatalytic CO2RR, the Ni1+NPsM-NCNT compounds show the Faradaic efficiency of CO (FECO) with a volcano-like tendency of Mn < Fe ≈ Co < Zn < Cu, in which the Ni1+NPsCu-NCNT exhibits the highest FECO of 96.92%, a current density of 171.25 mA cm-2 and a sustainable stability over 24 hours at a current density of 100 mA cm-2, outperforming most reported examples in the literature. Detailed experiments and theoretical calculations reveal that for Ni1+NPsCu-NCNTs, the electron transfer from NiCu NPs to Ni single atoms strengthens the adsorption of *COOH intermediates. Moreover, the d-band center of Ni-N in Ni1+NPsCu-NCNT is upshifted, providing stronger binding with the reaction intermediates of *COOH, whereas the NiCu NPs increase the Gibbs free energy change of the Volmer step, suppressing the competitive HER.

Cooperation and competition are the most common forms of social interaction in various social relationships. Intergroup relationships have been posited to influence individuals' interpersonal interactions significantly. Using electroencephalography hyperscanning, this study aimed to establish whether intergroup relationships influence interpersonal cooperation and competition and the underlying neural mechanisms. According to the results, the in-group Coop-index is better than the out-group, whereas the out-group Comp-index is stronger than the in-group. The in-group functional connectivity between the frontal-central region and the right temporoparietal junction in the ß band was stronger in competition than cooperation. The out-group functional connectivity between the frontal-central region and the left temporoparietal junction in the α band was stronger in cooperation than competition. In both cooperation and competition, the in-group exhibited higher interbrain synchronization between the prefrontal cortex and parietal region in the θ band, as well as between the frontal-central region and frontal-central region in the α band, compared to the out-group. The intrabrain phase-locking value in both the α and ß bands can effectively predict performance in competition tasks. Interbrain phase-locking value in both the α and θ bands can be effectively predicted in a performance cooperation task. This study offers neuroscientific evidence for in-group favoritism and out-group bias at an interpersonal level.

Di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) is an extensively used phthalate esters (PAEs) that raise growing ecotoxicological concerns due to detrimental effects on living organisms and ecosystems. This study performed hepatotoxic investigations on crucian carp under chronic low-dosage (CLD) exposure to DEHP at environmentally relevant concentrations (20-500 µg/L). The results demonstrated that the CLD exposure induced irreversible damage to the liver tissue. Multi-omics (transcriptomics and metabolomics) analyses revealed the predominant toxicological mechanisms underlying DEHP-induced hepatotoxicity by inhibiting energy production pathways and the up-regulation of the purine metabolism. Disruption of metabolic pathways led to excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and subsequent oxidative stress. The adverse metabolic effects were exacerbated by an interplay between oxidative stress and endoplasmic reticulum stress. This study not only provides new mechanistic insights into the ecotoxicological effects of DEHP under chronic low-dosage exposure, but also suggests a potential strategy for further ecological risk assessment of PAEs.

The characteristics of TiO2 nanotube arrays (TNTs) prepared on Ti foil in sulfuric acid solution that contains Cl- under different temperatures are investigated by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), Mott-Schottky measurement and Raman spectra. The solution temperature significantly affects the morphologies of TNTs, i.e., when solution temperature rises from -10 °C to 90 °C, the inner diameter of the nanotube increases and the barrier layer thickness decreases, and, as TNTs display n-type semiconductive properties, the donor density (ND) and corrosion protection decrease. Two types (types I and II) of pulse temperature are used to fabricate TNTs, in which type I is firstly anodized at a low temperature for time t, and then increases to a high temperature. While for type II, the solution temperature order is opposite to that of type I. The ND of TNTs in the case of type I is lower than ND of TNTs in the case of type II. ND decreases with the increased pulse step time for type I, while ND increases with the increased pulse step time for type II.

Social norms and altruistic punitive behaviours are both based on the integration of information from multiple contexts. Individual behavioural performance can be altered by loss and gain contexts, which produce different mental states and subjective perceptions. In this study, we used event-related potential and time-frequency techniques to examine performance on a third-party punishment task and to explore the neural mechanisms underlying context-dependent differences in punishment decisions. The results indicated that individuals were more likely to reject unfairness in the context of loss (vs. gain) and to increase punishment as unfairness increased. In contrast, fairness appeared to cause an early increase in cognitive control signal enhancement, as indicated by the P2 amplitude and theta oscillations, and a later increase in emotional and motivational salience during decision-making in gain vs. loss contexts, as indicated by the medial frontal negativity and beta oscillations. In summary, individuals were more willing to sanction violations of social norms in the loss context than in the gain context and rejecting unfair losses induced more equity-related cognitive conflict than accepting unfair gains, highlighting the importance of context (i.e., gain vs. loss) in equity-related social decision-making processes.

Extreme climates have become frequent nowadays, causing increased heat stress in human daily life. Personal thermal management (PTM), a technology that controls the human body's microenvironment, has become a promising strategy to address heat stress. While effective in ordinary environments, traditional high-performance fibers, such as ultrafine, porous, highly thermally conductive, and phase change materials, fall short when dealing with harsh conditions or large temperature fluctuations. Aerogels, a third-generation superinsulation material, have garnered extensive attention among researchers for their thermal management applications in building energy conservation, transportation, and aerospace, attributed to their extremely low densities and thermal conductivity. While aerogels have historically faced challenges related to weak mechanical strength and limited secondary processing capacity, recent advancements have witnessed notable progress in the development of wearable aerogels for PTM. This progress underscores their potential applications within extremely harsh environments, serving as self-powered smart devices and sensors. This Review offers a timely overview of wearable aerogels and their PTM applications with a particular focus on their wearability and suitability. Finally, the discussion classifies five types of PTM applications based on aerogel function: thermal insulation, heating, cooling, adaptive regulation (involving thermal insulation, heating, and cooling), and utilization of aerogels as wearable smart devices.

Osteogenic differentiation is important for fracture healing. Microfibrial-associated glycoprotein 2 (MAGP2) is found to function as a proangiogenic regulator in bone formation; however, its role in osteogenic differentiation during bone repair is not clear. Here, a mouse model of critical-sized femur fracture was constructed, and the adenovirus expressing MAGP2 was delivered into the fracture site. Mice with MAGP2 overexpression exhibited increased bone mineral density and bone volume fraction (BV/TV) at Day 14 postfracture. Within 7 days postfracture, overexpression of MAGP2 increased collagen I and II expression at the fracture callus, with increasing chondrogenesis. MAGP2 inhibited collagen II level but elevated collagen I by 14 days following fracture, accompanied by increased endochondral bone formation. In mouse osteoblast precursor MC3T3-E1 cells, MAGP2 treatment elevated the expression of osteoblastic factors (osterix, BGLAP and collagen I) and enhanced ALP activity and mineralization through activating ß-catenin signaling after osteogenic induction. Besides, MAGP2 could interact with lipoprotein receptor-related protein 5 (LRP5) and upregulated its expression. Promotion of osteogenic differentiation and ß-catenin activation mediated by MAGP2 was partially reversed by LRP5 knockdown. Interestingly, ß-catenin/transcription factor 4 (TCF4) increased MAGP2 expression probably by binding to MAGP2 promoter. These findings suggest that MAGP2 may interact with ß-catenin/TCF4 to enhance ß-catenin/TCF4's function and activate LRP5-activated ß-catenin signaling pathway, thus promoting osteogenic differentiation for fracture repair. mRNA sequencing identified the potential targets of MAGP2, providing novel insights into MAGP2 function and the directions for future research.

Competition is a common occurrence in life, but the influence of intimate relationships on people's competitiveness remains unknown. Grounded in Darwin's theory of sexual selection, this study utilized EEG hyperscanning technology to investigate the influence of the presence of romantic partners and the gender of competitors on the interbrain synchronization of female individuals during competitive contexts. The research results showed that in competitive interactions, there was a significant increase in Theta and Alpha frequency band activity between females and their competitors. Interbrain synchronization was strongest when their partners were not nearby and females competed with same gender competitors. The research results indicate that intimate companionship has an impact on the early alertness and late cognitive execution mechanisms of female individuals in competition, and due to intimate relationships, females pay more attention to same-gender competitors. This study demonstrates that the presence of intimate partners can affect a female's competitive state and brain synchronization with opponents of different genders, improving the theoretical explanation of intimate relationships and competitive interactions.

Third-party punishment occurs in interpersonal interactions to sustain social norms, and is strongly influenced by the characteristics of the interacting individuals. During social interactions, height is the striking physical appearance features first observed, height disadvantage may critically influence men's behavior and mental health. Herein, we explored the influence of height disadvantage on third-party punishment through time-frequency analysis and electroencephalography hyperscanning. Two participants were randomly designated as the recipient and third party after height comparison and instructed to complete third-party punishment task. Compared with when the third party's height is higher than the recipient's height, when the third party's height is lower, the punishment rate and transfer amount were significantly higher. Only for highly unfair offers, the theta power was significantly greater when the third party's height was lower. The inter-brain synchronization between the recipient and the third party was significantly stronger when the third party's height was lower. Compared with the fair and medium unfair offers, the inter-brain synchronization was strongest for highly unfair offers. Our findings indicate that the height disadvantage-induced anger and reputation concern promote third-party punishment and inter-brain synchronization. This study enriches research perspective and expands the application of the theory of Napoleon complex.

Competition is an essential component of social interaction and is influenced by interpersonal relationships. This study is based on social exchange theory and explores the relationship between brain synchronization and competition in the binary system of romantic relationships through electroencephalogram hyperscanning technology. The results found that females had a greater win rate in the romantic and friend groups. During the early stage (0-200 ms), when the competitive target appeared, the stranger group exhibited greater interbrain synchronicity in the Alpha frequency band. However, during the later stage (600-800 ms), the romantic group showed higher Alpha band interbrain synchrony when the competitive target appeared. Significant interbrain synchronizations were observed in the Theta frequency band of the stranger and friend groups at 400-600 ms and 800-1000 ms. Moreover, these interbrain synchronizations were significantly positively correlated with the winning rates of females in the competition. These findings suggest a close relationship between interpersonal coordination and interbrain synchronization. Furthermore, romantic relationships reduce participants' willingness to compete, affecting their attention regulation, emotional processing, and goal orientation, thus influencing competition. This study investigated the impact of romantic relationships on competition, providing a theoretical foundation for promoting the positive and healthy development of romantic relationships.

Vascular calcification (VC) is highly prevalent in patients undergoing hemodialysis, and is a significant contributor to the mortality rate. Therefore, biomarkers that can accurately predict the onset of VC are urgently required. Our study aimed to investigate serum miR-15a levels in relation to VC and to develop a predictive model for VC in patients undergoing hemodialysis at the Beijing Friendship Hospital hemodialysis center between 1 January 2019 and 31 December 2020. The patients were categorized into two groups: VC and non-VC. Logistic regression (LR) models were used to examine the risk factors associated with VC. Additionally, we developed an miR-15a-based nomogram based on the results of the multivariate LR analysis. A total of 138 patients under hemodialysis were investigated (age: 58.41 ± 13.22 years; 54 males). VC occurred in 79 (57.2%) patients. Multivariate LR analysis indicated that serum miR-15a, age, and WBC count were independent risk factors for VC. A miR-15a-based nomogram was developed by incorporating the following five predictors: age, dialysis vintage, predialysis nitrogen, WBC count, and miR-15a. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve had an area under the curve of 0.921, diagnostic threshold of 0.396, sensitivity of 0.722, and specificity of 0.932, indicating that this model had good discrimination. This study concluded that serum miR-15a levels, age, and white blood cell (WBC) count are independent risk factors for VC. A nomogram constructed by integrating these risk factors can be used to predict the risk of VC in patients undergoing hemodialysis.

PURPOSE: This study aims to identify the potential necroptosis related genes (NRGs)-associated miRNAs signature and explore the impact on the prognosis of stomach adenocarcinoma (STAD). METHODS: Employing rigorous methodologies, we utilized univariate Cox, Lasso and multivariate Cox regression analyses to develop a prognostic signature. Kaplan-Meier (K-M) and ROC curves were applied to assess the prognostic value of signature in a training group and an independent test group. Furthermore, we conducted Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA) for enrichment of tumor-related pathways. The risk score was calculated for each patient based on the expression of miRNAs which were enrolled in the signature. Patients were stratified into high- and low-risk groups. The immune cell infiltration and immunotherapy were compared between the two groups. Finally, the diagnostic potential of the miRNA was explored by RT-qPCR. RESULTS: We constructed a prognostic model based on 6 NRGs-associated miRNAs. K-M plots underscored superior survival outcomes in the low-risk group. GSEA results revealed the enrichment of several tumor-related pathways in the high-risk group. Notably, CD8+ T cells, Tregs and activated memory CD4+ T cells exhibited negative correlations with the risk score. Additionally, a few immune checkpoint genes, such as CTLA4, PD1 and PD-L1, were significantly upregulated in the low-risk group. Furthermore, the serum expression levels of all these 6 miRNAs were significantly elevated in STAD patients. CONCLUSIONS: Our study identified a robust risk score derived from a signature of 6 NRGs-associated miRNAs, demonstrating high efficacy for prognosis of STAD. These results not only contributed to our understanding of STAD pathogenesis, but also held promise for potential clinical applications, particularly in the realm of personalized immunotherapy for STAD patients.

With the gradual decline in freshwater resources, the space available for freshwater aquaculture is diminishing and the need to maximize saline water for aquaculture is increasing. This study aimed to elucidate the impact mechanisms of the disruption of the glutamate pathway on serum metabolism and ammonia excretion in crucian carp (Carassius auratus) under carbonate alkaline stress. A freshwater control group (C group), a 20 mmol/L NaHCO3 stress group (L group), and a 40 mmol/L NaHCO3 stress group (H group) were established. After 30 days of exposure, methionine sulfoximine (MSO) was injected to block the glutamate pathway metabolism, and the groups post-blocking were labeled as MC, ML, and MH. Ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with the quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-TOF/MS) metabolomics technique was employed to detect changes in the composition and content of crucian carp serum metabolites. Significant differential metabolites were identified, and related metabolic pathways were analyzed. The results revealed that, following the glutamate pathway blockade, a total of 228 differential metabolites (DMs) were identified in the three treatment groups. An enrichment analysis indicated significant involvement in glycerophospholipid metabolism, arachidonic acid metabolism, sphingolipid metabolism, purine metabolism, arginine and proline biosynthesis, pantothenate and CoA biosynthesis, glutathione metabolism, and fatty acid degradation, among other metabolic pathways. The results showed that ROS imbalances and L-arginine accumulation in crucian carp after the glutamate pathway blockade led to an increase in oxidative stress and inflammatory responses in vivo, which may cause damage to the structure and function of cell membranes. Crucian carp improves the body's antioxidant capacity and regulates cellular homeostasis by activating glutathione metabolism and increasing the concentration of phosphatidylcholine (PC) analogs. Additionally, challenges such as aggravated ammonia excretion obstruction and disrupted energy metabolism were observed in crucian carp, with the upregulation of purine metabolism alleviating ammonia toxicity and maintaining energy homeostasis through pantothenate and CoA biosynthesis as well as fatty acid degradation. This study elucidated the metabolic changes in crucian carp under carbonate alkaline stress after a glutamate pathway blockade at the cellular metabolism level and screened out the key metabolic pathways, which provide a scientific basis for further in-depth studies on the ammonia excretion of freshwater scleractinian fishes under saline and alkaline habitats at a later stage.

The toxic Cr(VI) from industrial wastewater pose serious threat to the human beings and eco-systems. To reduce the operation processes and enhance the removal efficiency of Cr(VI), targeted design of functionalized material is critical in practical applications. Herein, we developed a one-step strategy for simultaneous Cr(VI) reduction and total Cr capture by a novel phytate modified zero-valent iron (PA-ZVI). The reaction kinetics of Cr(VI) removal by PA-ZVI (0.2225 min-1) was 53 times higher compared to ZVI (0.0042 min-1). The Fe(0) content on the surface of PA-ZVI increased from 2.2% to 15.6% compared to ZVI. Meanwhile, Cr(VI) was liable to adsorb on the surface of PA-ZVI due to its lower adsorption energy compared with the original ZVI (-2.09 eV vs -0.85 eV). The incorporation of the phytate ligand promoted electron transfer from iron core to Cr(VI), leading to the rapid in-situ reduction of Cr(VI) adsorbed on the surface of PA-ZVI to Cr(III). PA-ZVI exhibited a satisfactory performance for Cr(VI) removal at a broad pH range (3-11) and in the presence of coexisting ions and humic acid. Moreover, the reactor with the addition of PA-ZVI achieved more than 90% Cr(VI) removal within 72 h in continuous flow experiments. The feasibility of PA-ZVI for the removal of Cr(VI) is also validated in authentic wastewater. This work provides novel ZVI materials that can effectively address decontamination challenges from Cr(VI) pollution.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the antioxidant activity of Armillaria gallica polysaccharides. It explored whether Armillaria gallica polysaccharides (AgP) could prevent HepG2 cells from H2O2-induced oxidative damage. The results demonstrated that HepG2 cells were significantly protected by AgP, and efficiently suppressed the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in HepG2 cells. Additionally, AgP significantly decreased the abnormal leakage of alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) caused by H2O2, protecting cell membrane integrity. It was discovered that AgP was also found to regulate the activities of antioxidant enzymes, superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-PX), while reducing malondialdehyde (MDA), thus protecting cells from oxidative damage. According to the flow cytometry analysis and measurement of caspase-3, caspase-8, and caspase-9 activities, AgP could modulate apoptosis-related proteins and attenuate ROS-mediated cell apoptosis.

To investigate the quantitative relationship between the pyrolysis characteristics and chemical components of tobacco materials, various machine learning methods were used to establish a quantitative analysis model of tobacco. The model relates the thermal weight loss rate to 19 chemical components, and identifies the characteristic temperature intervals of the pyrolysis process that significantly relate to the chemical components. The results showed that: 1) Among various machine learning methods, partial least squares (PLS), support vector regression (SVR) and Gaussian process regression (GPR) demonstrated superior regression performance on thermogravimetric data and chemical components. 2) The PLS model showed the best performance on fitting and prediction effects, and has good generalization ability to predict the 19 chemical components. For most components, the determination coefficients R 2 are above 0.85. While the performance of SVR and GPR models was comparable, the R 2 for most chemical components were below 0.75. 3) The significant temperature intervals for various chemical components were different, and most of the affected temperature intervals were within 130°C-400°C. The results can provide a reference for the materials selection of cigarette and reveal the possible interactions of various chemical components of tobacco materials in the pyrolysis process.

Altruistic punishment is a primary response to social norms violations; its neural mechanism has also attracted extensive research attention. In the present studies, we applied a low-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) to the bilateral dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) while participants engaged in a modified Ultimatum Game (Study 1) and third-party punishment game (Study 2) to explore how the bilateral DLPFC disruption affects people's perception of violation of fairness norms and altruistic punishment decision in the gain and loss contexts. Typically, punishers intervene more often against and show more social outrage towards Dictators/Proposers who unfairly distribute losses than those who unfairly share gains. We found that disrupting the function of the left DLPFC in the second-party punishment and the bilateral DLPFC in the third-party punishment with rTMS effectively obliterated this difference, making participants punish unfairly shared gains as often as they usually would punish unfairly shared losses. In the altruistic punishment of maintaining the social fairness norms, the inhibition of the right DLPFC function will affect the deviation of individual information integration ability; the inhibition of the left DLPFC function will affect the assessment of the degree of violation of fairness norms and weaken impulse control, leading to attenuate the moderating effect of gain and loss contexts on altruistic punishment. Our findings emphasize that DLPFC is closely related to altruistic punishment and provide causal neuroscientific evidence.

BACKGROUND: Hyperuricemia (HUA) is a disease characterized by excessive uric acid production and/or insufficient uric acid excretion caused by abnormal purine metabolism in the human body. Uric acid deposition caused by hyperuricemia can cause complications, such as kidney damage. The current therapeutic drugs for HUA are not very targeted and usually have specific toxic side effects. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to synthesize a compound using rhein and praseodymium, which can effectively help hyperuricemia patients with kidney injury to excrete uric acid through the intestine and preliminarily explore its intestinal excretion mechanism. METHODS: The natural active ingredient rhein and rare earth metal praseodymium were used to synthesize Rh-Pr. The possible chemical structure of Rh-Pr was deduced by UV, IR, 1H-NMR, conductivity method, and thermogravity analysis. Adenine (100 mg/kg) and ethambutol hydrochloride (250 mg/kg) were administered by gavage for three weeks to establish the hyperuricemia rat model of renal injury. Serum uric acid (UA), creatinine (Cr), urea nitrogen (BUN), and uric acid concentration in urine and feces were detected by biochemical methods. The protein expression levels of GLUT9, ABCG2, and MRP4 in the jejunum, ileum, and colon of rats were detected by Western Blotting. RESULTS: According to the characterization, the chemical composition formula of the complex is Pr(C15H7O6)3·2H2O. In vivo, activity tests showed that Rh-Pr could enhance the intestinal uric acid excretion level of rats, upregulate the expression of ABCG2 protein in the jejunum and ileum, down-regulate the expression of GLUT9 protein in the ileum and colon, and also had a good recovery effect on serum uric acid, creatinine, and urea nitrogen levels. CONCLUSION: Rh-Pr is different from other drugs in that it promotes intestinal uric acid excretion and has a renal recovery effect. It reduces the patient's kidney burden and is significant for hyperuricemia patients with kidney injury.

INTRODUCTION: Evidence on the willingness of men who have sex with men (MSM) with oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) experience, especially those with suboptimal adherence, to take long-acting injectable PrEP (LAI-PrEP) is critical to guide future LAI-PrEP implementation. OBJECTIVE: The objective was to assess the willingness of MSM with oral PrEP experience to take LAI-PrEP. METHODS: MSM who participated in the China Real-world Study of Oral PrEP (CROPrEP) were enrolled in this study. Information on the willingness of MSM to take LAI-PrEP and potential correlates was collected using a structured online questionnaire. The main outcomes were the willingness of MSM to take LAI-PrEP and its association with HIV-related behaviours, sexually transmitted infections, and oral PrEP history. Logistic regression was used to identify correlates of the willingness of MSM to take LAI-PrEP. RESULTS: A total of 612 former CROPrEP participants (FCPs) were included in this study. There were 315 (51.5%) daily oral PrEP (D-PrEP) users and 297 (48.5%) event-driven oral PrEP (ED-PrEP) users at the last follow-up. Most FCPs (77.8%) were willing to take free LAI-PrEP. FCPs with no less than two sexual male partners (aOR = 1.54, [95% CI: 1.04, 2.29], P = 0.031), those with male partners with unknown HIV statuses (aOR = 2.04, [95% CI: 1.31, 3.18], P = 0.002), those with recreational drug use (aOR = 1.58, [95% CI: 1.05, 2.40], P = 0.030), and those with HSV-2 positivity (aOR = 2.15, [95% CI: 1.30, 3.57], P = 0.003) were more willing to take LAI-PrEP, while ED-PrEP users (aOR = 0.66, [95% CI: 0.45, 0.98], P = 0.037) and FCPs with suboptimal oral PrEP adherence (aOR = 0.58, [95% CI: 0.36, 0.94], P = 0.026) were less willing to take LAI-PrEP. CONCLUSION: LAI-PrEP has good prospects for expanding PrEP coverage. However, FCPs with suboptimal oral PrEP adherence are less likely to take LAI-PrEP. Further intervention and implementation efforts are needed to improve the willingness of MSM to use LAI-PrEP, and sexual health should be considered during the discussion about PrEP initiation.
